Perrault to Play Another Season with the Coyotes
The Phoenix Coyotes announced Thursday that they have resigned C Joel Perrault. The Coyotes have him signed to a two-year contract, all other terms were disclosed and could not be available.
The 25 year-old center posted 7-10-17 (goals-assists-points) and 48 penalty minutes (PIM) last season in 49 games for the Coyotes. Last season he set a career record in points, goals, penalty minutes, assists game-winning goals (2) and power-play goals (3).
Perrault was acquired by the Anaheim Ducks in the 5th round (137th overall) in the 2001 NHL Draft. He was traded to the St. Louis Blues before coming to the Phoenix Coyotes. He has recorded 9-13-22 and 64 PIM in 80 career games with St. Louis and Phoenix.
Prior to him being called up by the Coyotes on December 14th, he played for the Coyotes top-affiliate, San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He recored 14-13-27 and 36 PIM in 28 games.
Perrault has never been a big-time player at either of his stops in the NHL. He will certainly be battling for a roster spot. If he earns that spot, he will likely be on the third line and backup players like Peter Mueller and newly-acquired, Olli Jokinen. Any resigning to this club is a good thing as the Coyotes continue to build around their youth and get better that way.
