AFC Preview for Week 6 NFL Football
Miami @ Houston -3
Miami’s 7th ranked rushing offense is going to take Houston’s run D to “Poundtown” on Sunday, and Ronnie Brown is the mayor. Houston gives up 140 yards on the ground and gives up the 3rd most points in the league. Take Miami ML for bigger dividends. Miami wins 24-10.
Baltimore @ Indianapolis -6 -4
Stay with the trend and take Baltimore on the road. Hell, take them money line. The Colts are reportedly starting two D-Lineman that barely outweigh starting TB Willie Mcgahee, and they have the worst run D in the league. Even if they try to load the box to test rookie Flacco’s skillset, Baltimore’s top-ranked rush and pass D will pick apart Peyton’s offense. Not that they will need to, but they could win the game on their own. A close one, but the Ravens fly high 17-13.
Cincinnati @ Jets -6.5 -5.5
Should be a battle of air supremacy vs. the power of the run. Carson Palmer is healthy, Chris Henry is back, and the Jets’ pass defense is 2nd-worst in the NFL, giving up 265 yards through the air. Cincy’s ground attack is putrid (78 yards a game for 30th in the league) and the Jets’ run D is top 5, allowing less than 80 yards a game on the turf. The Jets are having problems of their own on the ground but facing a Cincy rush D that is giving up 171 yards per game might just be the prescription that Thomas Jones needs to keep Leon Washington at bay for one more week. You can’t throw if you can’t run, so take the Jets at home, 31-24.
Jacksonville @ Denver -3.5
Jay Cutler and “Baby TO” Brandon Marshall will resume their love affair and put up big numbers this week at home versus J-Ville’s Swiss cheese pass defense. The Jags’ offense is towards the bottom half of the NFL but will face one of the worst defenses in the league. Denver ranks in the bottom ten both through the air and on the ground. Should be a shootout in the thin mile-high air, but I’m going with the Broncos and the 3rd-highest point total in the league. Denver 41-34.
New England @ San Diego -5.5
This is actually a dream match-up for a Brady-less Pats squad. Matt Cassel faces the worst pass D in the NFL and should increase the Moss TD streak to two games. Neither team is functioning at full potential, but defense wins championships, and I could never put money on the idea that Norv Turner might out-coach Belichick. Neither LT nor Gates are completely healthy, so SD’s losing streak against AFC East teams continues. Pats victorious, 23-20.
New York Giants -7 @ Cleveland
If you’re considering taking the points on Cleveland, just go to Home Depot, buy a mallet, and whack yourself in the head with it. It’ll save you money and pain. Cleveland’s top 10 pass D is going to get exhausted being on the field so much when its bottom 3 offense can barely move the chains. The Jints have the top offense in the league for a reason. They can absolutely mash. Watch for Eli, Plexiglass, and Jacobs to go buck hog wild, 128-3.
